Leaves fall in many different ways. Some flutter gently, some spiral as they descend, some are carried away by the wind, and some drop with a quiet thud. Watching these small variations has slowly become a practice I return to on my walks.
But falling is not an ending. The leaves gather, soften and become part of the ground again. They enrich the soil, create shelter and food for insects, fungi and other life, and slowly turn into something new.
This artwork is part of a series of visual nature poems, where words and watercolor come together to hold small observations from the natural world.
