An art print showing commonly overlooked plants presented as herbarium specimens. Originally created for the Indian Women Scientists Association book Creating Learning Gardens and Living Museums.
Product Details
Many plants that grow quietly around us are often dismissed as “just weeds.” This spread brings them into focus by presenting them in a herbarium style, where each plant is drawn as a specimen, similar to how botanists document plants for study and reference.
Looking at them this way invites a shift in perspective. Plants that grow along pathways, in empty plots, or at the edges of gardens reveal intricate leaf shapes, delicate flowers and long histories of use in food and medicine.
The first step to getting to know them is simply paying attention.
The illustrations were first drawn by hand in pencil and then coloured digitally.
