This Is My Home – Visual Nature Poem

This piece comes from time spent walking through the mangroves near my home. It is a place that has shaped how I see nature. Each visit reveals something new. Crabs moving through the mud, birds feeding along the edges, roots holding the ground together.

In recent walks, I have also begun to notice signs of strain. Dumped garbage, construction waste and cut trees. It is difficult to hold both these realities together, the richness of the ecosystem and the ease with which it is overlooked.

This work is a way of paying attention, and of reminding myself that these spaces are not empty. They are living, protective systems that quietly support the city around them.
